The Rain<\/p>\n
It was a busy
\nMorning, about 8:30, when an elderly
\nGentleman in his 80’s arrived to have
\nStitches removed from his thumb.
\nHe said he was in a hurry as he had an
\nAppointment at 9:00 am.
\nI took his vital
\nSigns and had him take a seat,
\nKnowing it would be over an hour
\nBefore someone
\nWould to able to see him.
\nI saw him looking at his watch and
\nDecided, since I
\nWas not busy with another patient,
\nI would evaluate his wound.
\nOn exam, it was
\nWell healed, so I talked to one of the
\nDoctors, got the needed supplies to
\nRemove his sutures and redress his wound.<\/p>\n
While taking care of
\nHis wound, I asked him if he
\nHad another doctor’s appointment
\nThis morning, as
\nHe was in such a hurry.<\/p>\n
The gentleman told me no, that he
\nNeeded to go to
\nThe nursing home to eat breakfast
\nWith his wife. I inquired as to her
\nHealth. <\/p>\n
He told me that she had been there
\nFor a while and that she
\nWas a victim of Alzheimer’s Disease.<\/p>\n
As we
\nTalked, I asked if she would be
\nUpset if he was a bit late. <\/p>\n
He
\nReplied that she no longer knew
\nWho he was, that she had not
\nRecognized him in
\nFive years now.<\/p>\n
I was surprised, and asked him,
\n‘And you still go every
\nMorning, even though she
\nDoesn’t know who you are?’ <\/p>\n
He smiled as he
\nPatted my hand and said,<\/p>\n
‘She doesn’t
\nKnow me, but I still know who she is.’<\/p>\n
I had to hold back
\nTears as he left, I had goose bumps
\nOn my arm, and thought,<\/p>\n
‘That is
\nThe kind of love I want in my life.’ <\/p>\n
True love is
\nNeither physical, nor romantic.<\/p>\n
True love is an
\nAcceptance of all that is,
\nHas been, will be, and will not
